Siena Ellen Mullins made her appearance into this world on Tuesday, March 24, 2009 at 8:20 p.m. She weighs 7 lbs 13 oz and is 19 1/4 inches long. The entire birth was a wonderful experience...great epidural meant minimal discomfort for mommy and once we were ready for the pushing stage it only took 10 minutes for our little princess to arrive! We were thrilled when she received a perfect 10 APGAR, which the nurses told us is very rare! Imagine our surprise when our little bundle of joy was taken to the special care nursery at 5 a.m. the next morning because her heart rate was low and they wanted to monitor her more closely! We were shocked because she seemed so perfectly healthy. She was hooked up to monitors and spent about 30 hours in the special care nursery. It was a very scary time for us and so hard to accept that she couldn't be with us in our room as we had planned. Luckily, on Friday morning the pediatrician decided that the test results combined with her vital signs did not show anything terribly alarming and he agreed to discharge her that morning as long as we made and appointment with our pediatrician the next day. We were thrilled to take Siena home with us! She had a wonderful first night! She is nursing like a champ and sleeping for 2-3 hour chunks at a time! We took her to our pediatrician today and he checked her out and does not see any reason for concern! So needless to say, everything turned out okay!
