Relay for LIfe

On Saturday, May 1st I participated in the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life. It was an amazing experience and will most definitely become a yearly tradition. I joined a team of women from my school and we were doing it in honor of our secretary, who lost her battle with cancer last November, as well as the friends and family members in our lives who have battled this horrific disease. I set a fundraising goal of $200 and ended up raising $360! Our team ended up first place in fundraising out of 89 teams! Not bad for a small army! The picture below shows the back of our team shirts. All of us listed the names of people that we knew who have had cancer and the names were listed on the back of our shirts. The event began at 10 a.m. on Saturday and lasted for 24 hours. We all camped out at the PV High track, where the event was held. Each team had to have a member on the track at all times, so several of us were walking in the wee hours! It was freezing cold at night and I defintely was not prepared with enough layers of clothing and blankets but it was still an awesome adventure! At night, there were luminarias that honored people who had survived or lost their life to cancer all lit up around the track. It was very moving. Here is a picture of the luminarias at night.Gabe brought the girls out for part of the day. Lucca got to participate in an Oreo cookie stacking contest and she tied for second place! A fun time was definitely had by all!

I wish I would have reminded J that there was a luminaria out there with my mom's name on it so he could have taken a picture of it! :( He was out there as Medical Support with Life Line. Did you see him?
